What Is Inspiration?
By: Pierre Fassbender of Sportystation
Inspiration can be defined in many ways. The Free Dictionary defines it as a “stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level of feeling or activity, a product of your creative thinking and work.” According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, “inspiration is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.”
These definitions relate directly to the state of mind we need to be in to stay relevant as writers/bloggers. I have asked this question many times and you’ve probably done the same. In the midst of the highs and lows, how do I stay inspired?
How do I stay inspired
Different people have their own strategies that help them stay inspired. These range from positive affirmation to actual step by step actions that they perform. Below are 8 tips that have consistently worked for me and have helped me stay inspired to write, no matter the circumstances.
1. Believe in yourself
It takes a lot of guts to believe that you have something to say that someone else, matter of fact the whole world would be interested in reading. The moment you decided to become a blogger, there must have been something in you that made you believe you can do it. Hold on to that “something”. Don’t doubt your abilities for a moment. If you don’t believe in yourself, how could anyone else believe in you?
2. Keep an open mind
Open your mind to things outside of your comfort zone or the things that you are familiar with. Be aware of the world around you. Look for inspiration and ideas from your surrounding. There’s always something going on around you that is capable of giving you a different perspective from what you are accustomed to.
I have received ideas for some of my best blog posts and poems through things happening around me. While everyone else didn’t even give it a thought, my mind was at work putting the story together.
3. Become an avid reader and learner
This is a core part of blogging. Our readers depend on us to give them accurate and reliable information. This automatically means that we have to research information that we use. No matter how much knowledge and experience you have in your chosen niche or topic, there are always new things to learn.
There is no running away from reading if you want to stay current and relevant. Another advantage is that the more you read the more resources you have to draw ideas and inspiration from.
4. Network both offline and online
Online networking is being talked about quite a lot, but less emphasis is placed on offline networking. Online networking helps you instantly connect with and learn from a larger number of people, but offline marketing can yield great results if well planned and implemented.
Great ways to build an offline network are by joining local outreach efforts or joining your local chamber of commerce. You can approach the leadership about being part of a skills fair or other related activities. Helping other people can be very inspiring. You may also have the opportunity to showcase your website.
5. Ask for input from your readers
It’s a great strategy to ask your readers to suggest topics they will like you to write about. This serves multiple purposes. First it helps you specifically target their need. You are focusing on a topic that they are hungry to read about. They anticipate it, they can’t wait to read it. Another benefit is that you may receive suggestions you will never have thought about on your own. I can’t imagine anyone not being inspired by great reader suggestions.
6. Learn the signs of fatigue
It is very important to recognize when to step away from your computer and give yourself a break. As much as you are eager to complete that next post, resist the temptation to keep pushing when you know you are totally sapped. It is difficult to be inspired to create if you are burned out and unable to focus.
7. Set realistic goals and expectations
Any time you set obvious unrealistic goals or expectations, you set yourself up for failure. Nobody likes to fail to achieve their goals. Setting reasonable, piece by piece and measurable goals set you up for success. Having an all or nothing approach may be discouraging if you don’t get it all done.
It’s best to break your goals down into smaller “mini” goals. This will ensure that you are able to measure your progress and actually feel a sense of accomplishment. Achieving success is inspiring, lack of success on the other hand is discouraging.
8. Think of the end result
Always remember your destination, the finish line. Having a vision of where you’re headed helps keep you inspired. It can be in the form a picture of your mentor or just a writing on a chalk board reminding you of your goal.
For me, there are few reminders.
“Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain”- the prayer of Jabez (1st Chronicles 4:9-10).
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” – Eleanor Roosevelt
“You Will Never Change Your Life Until You Change What You Do On A Daily Basis.”

Graphing calculators may not be as popular today as before but they are still a big help to students and some professionals in the field of Mathematics. Texas Instruments, the leading brand of graphing calculators still producing and upgrading their TI lineup.
Their latest TI calculator is the Texas TI-84 Plus CE which is a big upgrade of the popular TI-84 Plus. They still have the CX CAS which is one of the best out there. This review might help you if you’re planning to buy a graphing calculator: Calcustar’s Best Graphing Calculator Reviews of 2017.
TI calculators are also the most recommended calculators in most universities and colleges. In fact, one of my nephew recently bought a TI-Nspire CX CAS because their professor recommended it.
Besides Texas Instruments, there are also some big names when it comes to graphing calculators and calculators in general. Top TI contenders are HP and Casio. Some of the professors I know fell in love with their calculator line up.
The HP 50g is the most popular graphing calculator of HP. It is much affordable than most TIs yet it still offers great performance. Although, not as powerful as the high end TI models like CX CAS and TI-89 Titanium, the HP 50g can perform really well in certain conditions and some high level computations.
The Casio FX-9750GII is the probably a lot closer counterpart of the HP 50g. It costs less than the HP 50g and the performance is quite good.
Are they worth your money?
I can say that YES, they are worth your money. Graphing calculators have different price points. The lower end models can cost you about $40-$50 while the higher end models can go up to $130. It is really depends on your need and budget. Calculators that has a CAS feature tend to be more expensive because it can calculate higher degree much faster.
Do take note that you should always choose a calculator that is accurate and easy to use.
But graphing calculators are complex tools!
Yes, they are definitely hard to use and make your head hurt during the first time you use them. But with enough practice you can learn it fairly quickly. Some graphing calculators are easier to use like the HP and Casio models. TI calculators on the other hand, are much powerful and complex thus requires a daily practice to use them comfortably.
Do you really need to buy one?
The answer here is quite simple. If the subjects requires you to get a graphing calculator then you should not hesitate and buy one right away. I suggest read a few reviews online like the one I mentioned above and probably order one from Amazon and have it shipped right at your doorsteps.
But in some cases, a scientific calculator or a financial calculator is just enough for your needs. There are some subjects and majors that needs a scientific or financial calculators only.
The 3 wheel stroller that converts to a trike or, a trike that converts to a 3 wheel stroller? “You Make The Call”. The Taga Bike Stroller is an adult tricycle with the child seat on the front that converts to a stroller in mere seconds. This is a short review, feel free to contact me if you have future suggestions.
You can see the video demonstration below.
A Google search revealed it’s available at Google Products and other retailers. Here I want to comment on the pros offered on the Google Products page.
“…Taga goes from super fun, safe and maneuverable bicycle to designer stroller that easily navigates stores, boards trains and slides into elevators.“So, is it no longer ‘super fun, safe and maneuverable’ when converted to the designer stroller?
I also have to wonder how welcome I’d be in ‘stores… trains and… elevators’ after I’d been rolling over the various types of road debris along the way.
“The possibilities for adventure-and reasons to buy one-are endless“ Really?! Endless?! Really?!I guess it’s kinda like the character ‘Bubba’ in “Forrest Gump” who recites the many ways to prepare shrimp. It seems he could go on forever but he eventually runs out.
“The fact that you can stroll with it, ride on it, and take it on public transportation makes Taga one of the greenest vehicles around“ What?! Run that one by me again…Ya know, I’m no copy writer, but……man, give me a break.
The greenest vehicles around? Just because…“you can stroll with it, ride on it, and take it on public transportation“I could do that with a mule, camel, aardvark, skunk, squirrel… okay I’ll stop there. How about a log in a river? Now there’s green transportation.
Far greener than a stupid, people powered aluminum trike. (Even though I can’t stroll with it or take it on public transportation.
“Feel good about leaving your car behind.” Yeah, I ALWAYS feel guilty about that one. Especially in certain parts of town. I feel MUCH better trikeing through these same parts of town. Fun aside now.
I really did find this an interesting, though impractical for my lifestyle product. You can use it as a trike for transporting your child, or convert it into a stroller. The advantage I see in this is you don’t need two conveyances for your child, trike and stroller. It’s all right there.
I see there’s a ‘basket’ underneath. Doesn’t look like much room though. Better take along a small diaper bag. You should be able to judge from the photo and videos whether or not YOUR lifestyle could be augmented with the Taga Bike Stroller.
There are multiple colors and accessories. They have a double child seat made of wood. Oh, yeah! Wood. Gotta get me one! Other accessories are a side pouch, rain cover, second child seat, mud flaps (to protect you, not flip mud on you), disc brakes, adjustable bike seat, adapter for a Maxi Cosi (only) car seat, shopping basket (a little forward thinking here on Tagas’ part.
When your child is too large to tote around you can still use the trike for something). So there you have it, my take on this product. Like I implied, I don’t have a use for this but perhaps you will and so I bring it to your attention.
There is almost no one in the world who is not able to learn how to cook. Some people just need a little more practice than others and they can become a great cook.
Many people make the mistake of giving up learning to cook after failing to get a recipe right the first time round, but cooking does require some knowledge to really be a success at it.
Learn how to use Garlic
Garlic adds a wonderful flavor to many recipes. However, the unfortunate thing is that the smell can linger on your hands for quite some time. If you’ve been handling garlic a lot, there is a way that you can remove the smell.
You do this by rubbing your hands on a stainless steel stove or sink for about thirty seconds before you wash them. If you use this tip, you should be able to enjoy your meal without the waft of strong garlic coming from your hands.
Is the food fresh?
If you feel that a piece of food you are about to cook does not look right or may be rotten, always err on the side of caution and throw it away. It’s better and safer to lose a few dollars than to suffer from food poisoning.
Learn to cut properly
The likes of some bar cookies, fudge and chewy brownies can sometimes crumble and fall apart when you try to cut them into squares. An alternative way to cut them is to use a rotary pizza cutter. This can enable you to carry out the task without being concerned about a sharp knife slipping and possibly cutting yourself.
You should cut some very light guidelines with the knife tip before finally using the pizza cutter in order to get perfectly cut bar cookies, brownies and fudge etc.
Other sources of Protein
Soy products and beans are a great way to get protein if you need to add some to your diet. Most grocery stores will stock both these products. Another great substitute for meat is Tofu. This can taste great when it’s broiled, baked or pan-fried with added seasoning. The beans can be boiled with some herbs for a flavorful protein source.
When you are adding seasoning to food, a good rule to follow is to add the seasoning a little at a time rather than adding it all at once in the beginning of the cooking process. This method will help ensure that the flavoring is evenly spread out and that the ingredients are enhanced to the best they can be.
Don’t just guess on the taste of your meatballs and loafs. Take the meat and seasoning mixture and fry up a small hamburger first of all to give you a taste of how your meatloaf or meatballs will turn out. By doing this, you can then add more seasoning or tone them down by adding more meat to the mix.
During cooking, if the consistency of a sauce or gravy is too thin for your liking, try adding some corn starch to it in order to thicken it. You should never use ordinary flour as this can make the sauce taste somewhat “chalky”. Corn starch is a great thickening agent and blends very well with most sauces and gravy.
Why not become a great cook and impress your friends and family by creating an especially tasty sandwich. You can do this by making sure that the fillings and dressing are sufficient and that there are no dry corners to the bread. When in a hurry, people sometimes spread mayonnaise onto a sandwich far too quickly and this can result in there being uneven tasting parts.
When the mayo reaches every corner of the bread, each bite of the sandwich should taste just as good as the last one. An electric stand mixer is a blessing for a cook when you have to make your dough. However, this relatively easy task can sometimes turn into a nightmare when the dough sticks to the dough hook.
In order to avoid a sticky mess, you should spray the hook with a vegetable cooking spray and your dough should not stick to your mixer again.
If you don’t have an education in cooking and an understanding of the various techniques and ingredients, cooking will undoubtedly be difficult. Cooking is both an art and a science at the same time and, in order to success, there must be a foundation for both. So, take these tips, get yourself into the kitchen and start getting stuck into it and become a great cook!
